How did you hear of Souper Bowl of Caring? The Souper Bowl collection is a long standing tradition with our youth group.
Why did you choose to join the Souper Bowl of Caring team? This team is a great opportunity for our youth to not only learn about hunger issues, but to also respond in service.
What does your group do to participate in the Souper Bowl of Caring movement? We collect cash in soup pots following worship for the Souper Bowl of Caring and non-perishable food items for a local agency, Hands of Christ Duluth Co-op.
What have you found is most successful for raising cash and food items? We give our youth leadership in promoting the collection in worship, on signs around the church, and in church publications a few weeks ahead of time.
Was there any particularly meaningful or moving story from your collection you would like to share? After our collection, our youth are responsible for counting the money, and organizing the food items. They were very excited to see how much food they helped collect in one place and consider how many people it might help feed.
Tell us a little about where you donate your collection to.The Duluth Cooperative Ministry is an ecumenical Christian, non-profit 501c(3), non-political organization providing aid for people in our community with urgent physical, economic, social and spiritual needs. A cooperative effort prevents duplication of services and provides a more efficient use of our resources.
What does participating in Souper Bowl of Caring mean to your group? Our middle school youth look forward to this every year as an opportunity to serve God by helping people who are hungry.
What does it mean to you?I think this event's timing is excellent by providing a lens to think about poverty and hunger in contrast to the excess of the Super Bowl.
Thank you for your continuous efforts in making Souper Bowl of Caring awesome.
